Seattle Mariners starter Erasmo Ramirez has been placed on the disabled list with a strained upper back. The injury affects his tricep and manager Scott Servais told reporters that Ramirez could miss a month or more with the injury. Ramirez struggled in his only two starts of the season, allowing seven home runs and 11 runs in only 9 2/3 innings. The Mariners may opt to skip the fifth spot in the rotation with some upcoming off days, but don't count out Triple-A pitcher Ariel Miranda getting another crack at starting.--Joey C - RotoBaller

The Tampa Bay Rays recalled right-hander Erasmo Ramirez from Triple-A Durham on Monday and optioned left-hander Jacob Lopez to Durham in a corresponding move. This will be Ramirez's second stint in the big leagues for the Rays this year, but he hasn't pitched for the Rays since May 21. The 34-year-old veteran Nicaraguan went 3-0 earlier this season with a 4.50 ERA (6.61 FIP), a 1.06 WHIP, one save, six walks and nine strikeouts in 16 innings pitched. Ramirez has been fortunate to pick up three wins and will likely occupy a middle-relief role for however long he's in the big leagues this time around. The 13-year-old veteran doesn't have any fantasy appeal and has a career 18% strikeout rate and 6.3% walk rate in 844 1/3 innings at the big-league level.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Erasmo Ramirez relieved relief pitcher Jason Adam with two outs in the ninth inning to record his first save of the season in Thursday's victory against the Boston Red Sox. Closer Pete Fairbanks seemed to have the night off and Adam got himself in trouble with two runners on base when Ramirez entered the ballgame. Ramirez has allowed seven runs in the 13 innings he has thrown this year and can be avoided in all formats with Fairbanks and Adam in line to receive most of the Rays save chances moving forward.--Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller

The Tampa Bay Rays selected the contract of right-hander Erasmo Ramirez from Triple-A Durham on Saturday and optioned left-hander Jacob Lopez to Durham in a corresponding move. The Rays also moved infielder Taylor Walls (hip) to the 60-day injured list. Ramirez will join Tampa's bullpen for the first time in 2024 after giving up two earned runs while striking out 13 in 8 1/3 innings pitched for the Bulls on the farm. The 33-year-old is unlikely to be a fantasy asset after posting a 6.41 ERA (5.05 FIP) and 1.57 WHIP with 13 walks and 43 strikeouts in 60 1/3 innings over 38 appearances (two starts) for the Rays and Washington Nationals. Ramirez has only struck out 6.8 batters per nine innings in his 12-year MLB career.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

The Tampa Bay Rays re-signed right-hander Erasmo Ramirez to a minor-league deal earlier this week. Ramirez will return to Tampa after he was outrighted off the 40-man roster following the conclusion of the 2023 season. The 33-year-old veteran swing man from Nicaragua appeared in 38 games (two starts) for the Rays and Washington Nationals last season, going 3-3 with a bloated 6.41 ERA (5.05 FIP) and 1.57 WHIP with 13 walks and 43 strikeouts in 60 1/3 innings pitched. The 12-year veteran hurler will give the Rays some extra pitching depth entering spring training and the regular season next year, but he won't be anywhere near the fantasy radar.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
