Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Nick Ahmed went 1-for-3 with a walk and his fourth home run of the season in Thursday's win against the Phillies. Despite being in a slump which has dropped his average to .194, Ahmed has managed to hit two home runs and collect five RBI (including three Thursday) in his last three games. Ahmed made some changes to his swing this season, and it's resulted in increased offensive production thus far. His average will likely hurt owners all year, but those in deep leagues can spot start Ahmed against weaker pitchers hoping that the Diamondbacks offense can carry him.--Jonathan Chan - Rotoballer

San Francisco Giants shortstop Nick Ahmed hit his first home run of the year during the bottom of the sixth inning in Monday's 5-4 win over the Chicago Cubs. Ahmed's homer was only the sixth extra-base hit he's delivered in 124 at-bats, but he also walked twice and is now slashing .250/.291/.323 with 13 RBI and 11 runs scored. He is no longer the middle infielder who popped a combined 35 home runs in the 2018 and 2019 seasons, as Ahmed has managed 16 homers since the start of the abbreviated 2020 campaign. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues might consider Ahmed, but he's safe to keep on waiver wires right now.--Brandon Williams - RotoBaller

The San Francisco Giants activated shortstop Nick Ahmed (wrist) from the 10-day injured list on Friday and optioned infielder Casey Schmitt to Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move. Shortstop prospect Marco Luciano (hamstring) was also activated from the IL, but the Giants chose to send him back to Sacramento for more seasoning. Now that Ahmed is back in the fold, he should split playing time at the 6 with Brett Wisely, who has been a nice surprise in the Bay Area this year. The 34-year-old Ahmed has been out for over a month with a sprained left wrist. Fantasy managers in NL-only leagues shouldn't expect much from him offensively. He's never been much of a threat with the lumber and was hitting .236/.274/.291 with no homers and 11 RBI in 36 games before injuring his wrist.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

San Francisco Giants shortstop Nick Ahmed (wrist) will resume his minor-league rehab assignment on Tuesday after briefly being shut down due to a minor setback that he experienced with his left wrist after starting a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento on June 1. Ahmed is ramping up again and resumed full baseball activities in Arizona. The veteran shortstop initially left the team's May 9 loss to the Colorado Rockies in the fourth inning after taking an awkward swing in his previous plate appearance and was diagnosed with a left-wrist sprain. The 34-year-old had been experiencing some discomfort since he took a line drive off his wrist during a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on April 27. Brett Wisely has mainly been filling in at the 6 with Ahmed out, but he's likely to return to a bench role when Ahmed is ready to return.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

San Francisco Giants outfielder Michael Conforto (hamstring) is starting a minor-league rehab assignment on Friday with Triple-A Sacramento, and shortstop Nick Ahmed (wrist) will join him in Sacramento on Saturday. Both Conforto and Ahmed could rejoin the Giants early next week if they get through their rehab assignments this weekend without any setbacks. Conforto was hitting a solid .280 (40-for-143) with seven home runs and 20 RBI before he suffered a right-hamstring strain on May 11 against the Cincinnati Reds. Conforto will be a lineup regular for the Giants when he returns. Ahmed, meanwhile, was the regular shortstop in San Fran before spraining his left wrist against the Braves on May 9. The 34-year-old vet is more of a defensive asset and was hitting a mere .236 with 11 RBI on the year before his injury.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
