Chicago White Sox outfielder Avisail Garcia (hamstring) has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring. Garcia hurt his hamstring running to first base Monday night and left in the bottom of the second inning. Outfielders Trayce Thompson and Leury Garcia will take over for Garcia. Leury Garcia offers more upside than Thompson, but both are better suited on the waiver wire outside of very deep leagues. Outfielder Daniel Palka will take the roster spot of Garcia and can be avoided in all formats.--Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller

Free-agent veteran outfielder Avisail Garcia (back) had successful surgery on Thursday to fix a fracture and a disc issue in his lower back at the hospital for special surgery in New York. The procedure was performed by Dr. Sheeraz Qureshi. Garcia now has all offseason to recover from the surgery, but it remains to be seen if he'll be fully ready to go for the start of spring training next year in February. However, barring a setback once he begins ramping up his baseball activities, the 33-year-old Venezuelan outfielder should have a good chance to be ready for Opening Day in 2025 for any team that wants to take a chance on the aging outfielder. Garcia probably won't have a strong market due to his injury and the fact he slashed a very mediocre .240/.255/.380 with a .635 OPS, two home runs and two RBI in 18 games in Miami before his injury.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Miami Marlins outfielder Avisail Garcia is being designated for assignment by the team on Tuesday, according to sources. Garcia is in the third year of a four-year, $53 million contract, so the Marlins will eat almost $24 million on the deal with the move. The 32-year-old played in only 18 games for the Fish this year and went 12-for-50 (.240) with two home runs and two RBI while missing time due to a hamstring injury. The former All-Star in 2017 with the Chicago White Sox has aged poorly in the last three years since clubbing 29 homers and driving in 86 in 2021 in his final year with the Milwaukee Brewers. In his three years with Miami, Garcia slashed just .218/.260/.322 with 13 homers, 49 RBI and six stolen bases in 153 games played. The veteran outfielder will now look for another opportunity as outfield depth with another club.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

The Miami Marlins placed outfielder Avisail Garcia (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list on Sunday with a left-hamstring strain, according to a source. In a corresponding move, outfielder Dane Myers was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville. The team also selected the contract of right-hander Emmanuel Ramirez from Jacksonville and designated left-hander Kent Emanuel for assignment. Garcia was pulled from Saturday's contest against the Washington Nationals with his hammy injury and will now miss at least the next 10 days. At this stage of his career, the 32-year-old isn't much of a fantasy asset in mixed leagues. He's currently hitting .240 (12-for-50) with two home runs and two RBI. Myers immediately jumps into Miami's starting lineup on Sunday and will start in right field and hit seventh against Nationals left-hander Patrick Corbin.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Miami Marlins outfielder Avisail Garcia (hamstring) was removed from Tuesday's game prematurely after he tweaked his hamstring. According to Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald, the injury is being classified as a left hamstring strain. It's been a tough go for Garcia this season, as he owns a .185/.241/.315 slash line with three home runs, eight runs, 12 RBI, and two steals. The 32-year-old already dealt with a back injury earlier in the year, which has limited him to 37 games. Fantasy managers can consider Garcia day-to-day, but this news has little impact in any format.--Spencer Seguin
