Christian Villanueva Extends Hitting Streak To Nine
7 years agoSan Diego Padres third baseman Christian Villanueva went 2-for-4 Sunday against the Arizona Diamondbacks, extending his hitting streak to nine games. Villanueva accounted for two of the Padres three hits for the game, including a two-run homerun off Diamondbacks starter Patrick Corbin in the sixth inning. The dinger was his seventh of the season and he is slashing a monstrous .355/.444/.774 through 62 at-bats. Villanueva is 15-for-29 during his current hitting streak with four homers, nine runs and 10 RBI. The 26-year-old rookie can't be ignored in leagues much longer. Entering today's game against the lefty Corbin, Villanueva held a 1.769 OPS against southpaws. He's a must-start against left-handed pitching and worth rolling out daily until he cools off.
