Vince Velasquez Stumbles Late In Defeat
7 years agoThrough the first four innings of Wednesday’s series finale between the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies at SunTrust Park, there was no score as the pitchers maintained control. In the top of the fifth inning, however, Phillies starting pitcher Vince Velasquez connected on an RBI single, driving home catcher Andrew Knapp with the first run of the game. Unfortunately for Velasquez, however, he would surrender three runs in the fifth. The 25-year-old would go six innings, allowing the aforementioned three runs on seven hits. He walked just one batter while striking out seven, tossing 99 pitches in the process. His next start is scheduled for Tuesday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
