BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 50% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Judging by his ownership, many didn't trust Yangervis Solarte as a late-round draftee. Fair, other sleepers like Aaron Altherr, Ryan McMahon and Carlos Gomez were more interesting and readily available. Doh! Through April 17, Solarte is slashing .280/.393/.520 and has appeared in 14 of 16 games. Batting cleanup, his starts have primarily come at third and second base. Partially credit the early flourish to his move from Petco Park to Rogers Centre, something similar to transitioning from a Honda to Ferrari for offense.
Solarte has made himself comfortable in Toronto with three homeruns and 16 runs-plus-RBI. Already a patient hitter, his excellent 1.43 BB/K this season is 11th in the majors. He's hitting 47.7% fly balls with homers 14.3% of the time; both would be career highs. Admittedly, his LD% is up but Hard% is way down, so those might cancel out. Solarte's BABIP and average are in-line with career rates and there aren't many glaring red flags. If he does moderate to his normal tendencies, the .240 ISO could diminish. Solarte isn't a player owners depend on for explicit categories, but he's a jack-of-all-trades we can slot in multiple positions, especially when he's hot. Already ahead of his PA projection and thriving, Solarte is well on his way to a fourth straight season with double-digit dingers and over 110 R+RBI.
