Braves Sign Jose Bautista To One-Year Minors Deal
7 years agoFree-agent outfielder Jose Bautista is not finished with baseball. The Atlanta Braves signed him to a one-year minor league contract and said that he would be playing his former position, third base. Whether we'll actually see Joey Bats in the big leagues is another question, since he's going to be playing extended spring training games for the time being. He essentially fell off a cliff in 2017, hitting .203 in 686 plate appearances. Bautista may be able to see his former teammates in June or July when the Braves play Toronto. See how he does in Florida before even thinking of grabbing him. If he makes it up to the big leagues and plays enough games to receive third base eligibility, he'd have some appeal in NL-only and deep mixed leagues for his power only.
