James van Riemsdyk Notches Leafs First Power Play Marker
7 years agoToronto Maple Leafs forward James van Riemsdyk found a way to finally beat Boston’s penalty kill. The Toronto Maple Leafs were 0-for-6 with the man advantage until late in game 2, when van Riemsdyk cleaned up a rebound from an area in which he has become very comfortable. Mitchell Marner’s changed direction after making contact with a leg in front and found van Riemsdyk down low, in his proverbial office. The goal didn’t give the Leafs new life, and didn’t make game 2 any less of a blowout, but it broke the goose egg for Toronto’s power play, and showed them that the Boston penalty kill can be beaten. The Leafs will need to convert on more chances, in an effort to at least combat the potent Bruins offense, if they can’t stifle it altogether. Perhaps stay away from van Riemsdyk in game 3, as his stats this season were actually slightly better on the road, than at the Air Canada Centre.
