2 months agoPhiladelphia Flyers center Sean Couturier (illness) will be sidelined against the New Jersey Devils on Monday. The Flyers captain is battling an illness and has to come out of the lineup for the third time this season. Couturier has produced eight goals and 16 assists in 48 outings this season. His spot in the lineup will go to Scott Laughton (personal), who is ready to return from a three-game absence. Laughton has offered similar production to Couturier, posting nine goals and 14 assists in 47 contests. However, Laughton has struggled offensively in recent times, going scoreless in eight out of 10 appearances.

The veteran forward will operate as the first-line center, working with Owen Tippett and Travis Konecny. Couturier's efforts have resulted in six goals and 17 points in 32 appearances this season. He tends to go through cold spells and is in the middle of one right now, with seven of Couturier's last nine appearances ending without a point for him.

He missed Thursday's 5-4 overtime loss to Ottawa due to a lower-body injury, and the team initially considered him a game-time decision for Saturday. Couturier will take on his normal duties as the first-line center, which pushes Ryan Poehling back to the fourth line. Meanwhile, Morgan Frost will get the night off as a healthy scratch. Couturier is a bad fantasy option in current form, as he's landed on the score sheet just three times in 16 appearances this season.

Couturier has averaged 0.5 points per game for the campaign, notching three goals and five assists in 16 appearances. His absence opens the door for Morgan Frost to re-enter the lineup. Meanwhile, Ryan Poehling might get some extra action. Returning from a three-game absence on Monday versus San Jose, Poehling showed good chemistry with Matvei Michkov on the third line and picked up an assist.
