Joey Lucchesi Notches First Career Win At Coors Field
7 years agoSan Diego Padres rookie starting pitcher Joey Lucchesi shined in his third career start Tuesday visiting the Colorado Rockies, picking up a victory after completing six-plus innings while allowing two runs (zero earned), four hits, a walk and eight strikeouts. Aside from a Trevor Story homer in the first inning after his own error, Lucchesi was cruising before manager Andy Green pulled him with two runners on in the seventh. This was Lucchesi's best start and he now boasts a 1.72 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 9.19 K/9. The left-hander was rated the Padres eighth best prospect this offseason (121st overall) and was called up to replace the injured Dinelson Lamet (elbow). After his last two performances, Lucchesi has a real chance to stick in the rotation and merits a deep league look. His next chance will come this weekend at home against the San Francisco Giants.
