Greg Holland Struggles Badly in His First Cardinals Appearance
7 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals closer Greg Holland had an awful debut with his new team, recording just one out but allowing a run on four walks. Holland threw 19 pitches, only six for strikes. He only faced five batters, inducing a groundout but allowing free passes to the other four (even though one was a poorly-planned intentional walk called by manager Mike Matheny). Holland had looked sharp in his Single-A "rehab" appearances, but he just couldn't find the plate in his first big league action of 2018. He might get a little work in an earlier inning, but his role as Cardinals closer is safe going forward.
