7 years agoWashington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin is coming into the postseason with four goals in his last three games. In four games against the Columbus Blue Jackets this season, Ovi has two goals, two assists and 20 shots. Scoring tends to drop in the playoffs and Ovechkin will likely have to rely more on his physicality than usual, but the with the goal-scoring title locked up, the points should keep rolling. Expect even bigger minutes from the Great Eight in both regulation and on the power play and hope that the Caps can finally put their playoff demons behind them with less pressure on them to succeed than in previous years.--Barry Miles

1 week agoWashington Capitals winger Alex Ovechkin became the NHL's all-time leading goal-scorer on Sunday with his 895th career goal in a 4-1 loss to the New York Islanders. The record-breaking goal came in the second period during a power-play situation. Ovechkin made history in his 1,487th career regular-season game, breaking a tie at the top of the goals chart with Wayne Gretzky, who held the goals record for 31 years. Teams have struggled to contain Ovechkin all year, as the Capitals captain now boasts 42 goals and 69 points in 61 games for the season. The Russian superstar has scored in five consecutive games, putting him only two away from matching his best-ever goal streak, which Ovechkin achieved during his rookie campaign in 2005-06.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
