Paul Goldschmidt Goes Hitless Again
7 years agoArizona Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt went 0-for-2 with two walks and an RBI in Tuesday's 6-1 win over the Dodgers. Through five games, Goldschmidt has recorded just one hit and is batting a paltry .071. Thanks to his nine walks, Goldy is still getting on base at a .458 clip for his owners in on-base percentage leagues. Goldschmidt's strange start to the season may have to do with his approach at the plate. Through 24 plate appearances, his swing percentage is down eight percent and when he does swing at pitches in the zone, he's making 20 percent less contact than last season. The decreased swing rate may indicate that pitchers are pitching around him. If this is the case, A.J. Pollock and Chris Owings need to take advantage more often if Goldschmidt wants to see anything he can hit.
