Masahiro Tanaka Superb In First Season Start
7 years agoComing off a rough 2017 regular season, difficult 2018 spring training and demotion from opening day, Masahiro Tanaka gave the Yankees quite the positive spark tonight in Toronto. Making his season debut at the Rogers Centre, the Japanese hurler went six innings, allowing just three hits, one of which was a home run resulting in the only Blue Jays run he allowed. He didn’t walk a single batter and struck out eight in the winning effort, tossing just 79 pitches before getting the hook from manager Aaron Boone. The Yankees must be pleased that the 29-year-old looked more like his postseason self from a year ago, as opposed to his regular season form, which was his worst in a Yankees uniform.
