Alcides Escobar Promoted In Batting Order
7 years agoKansas City Royals journeyman shortstop Alcides Escobar was promoted to the eighth spot in the batting order for Opening Day after All-Star catcher Salvador Perez went down with a torn MCL. Escobar was replaced at the bottom of the lineup by backup catcher Drew Butera, but fantasy owners should not be fooled into thinking this promotion means they should own Escobar. His on-base percentage was just .272 last season after playing in all 162 games while only walking 15 times. He finished with four stolen bases and six home runs and was caught stealing more than he was successful, and he somehow struck out more than he ever had in any prior season. That season was good enough to get him re-signed by Kansas City, but it better not be good enough to get him signed by any fantasy teams.
