Tyler Austin Gets Opening Day Nod At First
7 years agoThe New York Yankees have released their starting lineup for Thursday’s season opener in Toronto against the Blue Jays. While the familiar faces will be atop the lineup, first baseman Greg Bird’s injury and subsequent surgery has led to Tyler Austin getting the start at first and batting ninth. The 26-year-old saw time at first last year as well due to a Bird injury before suffering one himself. This spring, he had 45 plate appearances, batting .222 with four home runs and six RBI. Austin was significantly better against left-handed pitchers last year, surely playing a role in this decision by manager Aaron Boone.
