Greg Bird Undergoes Successful Surgery
7 years agoNew York Yankees first baseman Greg Bird underwent successful surgery on his right foot at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan on Tuesday. The 25-year-old was scratched from Sunday’s lineup with a foot injury and after undergoing an MRI and CT scan, it was determined that he needed surgery. Dr. Martin O’Malley performed the procedure, removing a “coin-sized” spur from his right ankle. The official estimate is that Bird will miss is six to eight weeks, meaning mid-May would be the earliest he could return to action. In his absence, look for Tyler Austin and Neil Walker to fill New York’s void at first, with the club being adamant about not looking outside the organization for an alternative.
