Sean Manaea Has Trouble Going Five Innings
7 years agoOakland Athletics starting pitcher Sean Manaea performed well in his start against the Mariners on Saturday. According to Melissa Lockard of The Athletic, the Athletics had hoped Manaea would go five innings Saturday. He managed to throw 4 2/3 innings, allowing one run while striking out three batters. Manaea got in trouble with walks, which ultimately got his pitch count high, causing the removal in the fifth. Manaea was working with newly-acquired catcher Jonathan Lucroy. "He’s very well-prepared, and he definitely takes charge and controls the entire diamond. Excited that he’s here and taking control of the pitching staff. It was a lot of fun today," said Manaea, as reported by Jane Lee of MLB.com. With the injury to starter Jharel Cotton (elbow), Manaea's spot in the rotation is further solidified. If he can improve his control, Manaea could become the bounce-back candidate that many hope he becomes.
