Dinelson Lamet Destined For Starting Rotation
7 years agoOn Tuesday, San Diego Padres manager Andy Green confirmed pitcher Dinelson Lamet is "moving closer" to securing a rotation spot. This puts Lamet in pole position as the Padres' third starter behind pitchers Clayton Richard and Bryan Mitchell. The endorsement by Green is unsurprising. Lamet debuted in 2017 with 21 starts, a 4.57 ERA, 4.20 xFIP and 1.24 WHIP. His most impressive assets were a fastball-slider combination that resulted in an excellent 10.94 K/9. Lamet has worked this Spring Training to develop a curveball and changeup to complement his two primary pitches. Lamet, 25, struggled with consistency last season, but is the Padres starter with the most upside heading into 2018.
