7 years agoColumbus Blue Jackets defenseman Zach Werenski scored his 14th goal and added an assist Thursday night against the visiting Colorado Avalanche. The 20-year-old now has six points in his last five games, bringing his total up to 32 on the season. Fantasy owners were hoping for more after Werenski finished his rookie season with 47 points, but it seems even breaking the 40-point plateau this season would be a stretch. Losing his spot on the top power play has contributed to Werenski's point totals this year; he only has 10 points with the man advantage. Still, his recent play is encouraging, and he could be a cheap option moving forward in daily pools.--Barry Miles

2 months agoAccording to Jeff Svoboda of the Columbus Blue Jackets, defenseman Zach Werenski (undisclosed) will not play against the Buffalo Sabers on Tuesday evening. Werenski sustained this injury during their loss to the Dallas Stars on Sunday evening. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status leading up to their next game on Thursday evening when they host the Utah Hockey Club. The 27-year-old has enjoyed a career season as he has tallied 57 points, which already ties a career-high. He has found the back of the net 17 times and added 40 helpers. He has logged 200 shots on goal, 13 hits, and 92 blocked shots. While sidelined on Tuesday, fantasy managers should expect Ivan Provorov to replace Werenski on the top pairing and power-play unit.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

3 months agoColumbus Blue Jackets defenseman Zach Werenski tallied a goal and an assist during their victory over the Seattle Kraken on Thursday evening. Werenski found the back of the net in the second period on a wrist shot. Later in the frame, he would tally the primary assist on Kent Johnson's 11th goal of the season. This performance extended his point streak to four games. Werenski has only been held off the scoresheet twice over his past ten contests. During this span, he has tallied 17 points (three goals, 14 helpers), averaged five shots on goal per game, and averaged just over two blocks per game. Fantasy managers should continue to view the 27-year-old as a must-start defenseman in all formats and a great play in DFS, given his ability to contribute offensively and block shots.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

4 months agoColumbus Blue Jackets defenseman Zach Werenski (leg) might skip Monday's meeting with Montreal. He hurt his left leg against Philadelphia at the weekend and could be out of action for the first time this season. Werenski is one of four defensemen in the league with 30-plus points for the season, having tallied 11 goals and 21 assists in 34 appearances. Additionally, Werenski ranks second on the team with 56 blocks, so his absence would be a massive blow for Columbus. The rest of the blue line would need to put in extra shifts if he's out, with Ivan Provorov likely replacing Werenski on the first power-play unit.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

5 months agoColumbus Blue Jackets defenseman Zach Werenski piled up a career-high five points in Thursday's 7-6 overtime victory against Tampa Bay. Led by Werenski, the Blue Jackets were able to battle back from a 3-0 deficit, with him scoring the decisive goal in overtime. Werenski finished the contest with two goals and three assists, becoming the first defenseman in franchise history to log at least five points in a single game. The five-point effort also matches the Blue Jackets' single-game record for all players. Columbus has started to score goals for fun lately, and it's helped Werenski to put together a four-game point streak. He's averaging a point per game for the season, with six goals and 13 on his name through 19 outings. Only Colorado's Cale Makar (28) boasts more points among blue-liners.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
