Dinelson Lamet Working On Secondary Pitches
7 years agoSan Diego Padres starting pitcher Dinelson Lamet is working on developing a curveball and changeup. Manager Andy Green is encouraging Lamet to grow comfortable mixing in other pitches to complement his power fastball-slider profile. Making his debut last season, Lamet registered a 10.94 K/9 in 21 starts. While impressive, his limited repertoire resulted in inconsistency throughout the year. The 25-year-old Lamet is currently competing with seven other pitchers for three starting slots. While the Padres could be playing coy, Lamet is likely a front-runner to start unless he suffers a meltdown in spring training. If he is able to harness his secondary pitches, Lamet should provide upside in strikeouts and improve on last year's volatile performance.
