Nathan MacKinnon Is A Legitimate Fantasy MVP Candidate
7 years agoColorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon has taken his game to another level this season. He has earned a spot in the NHL's top 10 in scoring with 71 points despite missing nearly three weeks with a shoulder injury. The 2013 first overall draft pick has transformed a historically bad Avalanche team of a year ago into a playoff contender this season. His value has been even greater for fantasy owners, as he is currently ranked as a top-15 player in standard Yahoo! formats, despite carrying an astounding average draft position of 138.9. While his point production is elite, MacKinnon is filling other popular league categories as well, sitting in the league's top 10 in shots per game (3.62) and power-play points per game (0.44) among skaters with more than 50 games played. While the Avalanche potentially missing the playoffs could keep him out of the NHL's Hart conversation, MacKinnon has certainly performed his way into MVP talk in fantasy hockey circles.
