7 years agoAtlanta Braves starting pitcher Julio Teheran is still the ace of the pitching staff despite horrible results at home in 2017 and he showed that on Monday, going two innings. He gave up no runs while giving up two hits and working around two walks. Sometimes an ace has to work around not having dominating stuff. It's also because he didn't have to face people like Trea Turner, Bryce Harper, and Daniel Murphy. Still, these were professional baseball players with bats in their hands. Watch how he does during the rest of the Spring.--Michael Griffin - RotoBaller

10 months agoFree-agent right-hander Julio Teheran has signed a minor-league deal with the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday. Teheran will give the Orioles some starting pitching depth after it was recently announced that both left-hander John Means (elbow) and Tyler Wells (elbow) will miss the rest of the 2024 season. The 33-year-old Teheran opted out of his minor-league deal with the Chicago Cubs over the weekend and has quickly latched on with another organization. The 13-year-old MLB veteran allowed four earned runs on six hits (one homer) in 2 2/3 innings in his lone start for the New York Mets this year and shouldn't be counted on for much in fantasy if he makes any starts for the O's the rest of this season. Teheran has a career 3.85 ERA (4.38 FIP) and 1.22 WHIP with a 20.5% strikeout rate and 8.0 % walk rate in 1,470 2/3 innings pitched.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

12 months agoThe New York Mets have designated pitcher Julio Teheran for assignment on Tuesday, the team announced. Teheran signed a one-year $2.5 million deal with the Mets on April 5 after he failed to make the Baltimore Orioles roster. The right-hander made one start for New York allowing four runs on six hits across 2 and 2/3 innings. Following the outing, the Mets designated the right-hander for assignment, and in his spot, New York called up right-handed pitcher Dedniel Núñez.--Cole Shelton

12 months agoNew York Mets right-hander Julio Teheran will officially make his 2024 debut with the Mets on Monday in Atlanta against the division-rival Braves, and he'll be good for 70 to 75 pitches. Teheran will also potentially be available out of the bullpen on Friday in the series opener against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks. The 33-year-old veteran was trying to win a roster spot with the Baltimore Orioles in spring training this year but was cut before Opening Day and has landed in the National League with the Mets. He'll give the team some rotation help with both Kodai Senga and Tylor Megill on the injured list due to shoulder injuries. At best, Teheran is a waiver-wire pickup for the pitching-needy in deep NL-only leagues, and he should be avoided in his first start versus Atlanta.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

12 months agoThe New York Mets signed free-agent right-hander Julio Teheran to a major-league deal on Wednesday, and club officials believe that he'll be capable of starting Monday's series opener against the division-rival Atlanta Braves. With Kodai Senga (shoulder) and Tylor Megill (shoulder) both on the injured list with shoulder injuries, the Mets are desperate for rotation help in the early going. The 33-year-old Teheran was competing for a roster spot with the Baltimore Orioles, so apparently he's stretched out enough to come right in and make a start for the Mets early next week. He had a 4.40 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 71 2/3 innings for the Milwaukee Brewers last year but should be avoided in all fantasy formats for what is expected to be his first start of 2024 against the Braves.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
