Stephen Gonsalves Hoping To Emerge As Twins Fifth Starter
7 years agoMinnesota Twins left-hander Stephen Gonsalves is widely regarded as the team's top pitching prospect. Heading into the season, MLB.com ranks the young lefty as the Twins' No. 3 prospect overall and top minor league pitcher. The 23-year-old was dominant in Double-A during the 2017 season, posting a 2.68 ERA and 96 strikeouts in 87 innings of work. Gonsalves has an outside shot at earning the fifth spot in the Twins rotation, although it seems more likely he will open the season in Triple-A Rochester. Even if he doesn't win a big league role out of spring training, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him make his major league debut at some point in the upcoming season. That makes him a name worth tracking, especially in dynasty leagues and AL-only formats.
