Buccaneers Release Doug Martin
7 years agoThe Tampa Bay Buccaneers released running back Doug Martin on Tuesday. This move was totally expected, as Martin failed to reach 450 yards for the second straight season after being an All-Pro in 2015. The team will save $6.75 million on the salary cap with the move. As a rookie, Martin rushed for 1,454 yards with 11 rushing touchdowns. In the last two years, Martin has averaged a weak 2.9 yards per carry on 282 totes. In his absence, Jacquizz Rodgers and Peyton Barber figure to split time in the backfield, but the Bucs will likely look to made an addition at running back. Martin may benefit from a chance of scenery in free agency, but he's unlikely to land a bell-cow role after struggling mightily the last two seasons.
