Taijuan Walker Hopes Humidor Helps
7 years agoArizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Taijuan Walker hopes the humidor helps him this year, but he is not sure, according to Nick Piecoro of Arizona Central. “It’s pretty easy to get a grip with the fastball, but the hardest thing for me is getting a grip with the curveball,” Walker said. “If that (the humidor) is going to help, it’s going to be awesome. That’s my biggest feel pitch.” If last year's stats are any indicator, the humidor should most definitely help Walker. At home, he allowed opponents to hit .320 off his breaking ball, but they only hit .119 on the road. Walker has historically been a fly-ball pitcher, but he got better last year, dropping it to 32.8 percent from 37.9 percent the previous year. The humidor should allow for better grip and reduce exit velocity, allowing Walker to continue to improve in that aspect as well. If the humidor does in fact help, Walker will provide tremendous value when selected in the latter half of the draft.
