7 years agoDustin Johnson entered Sunday's final round at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am tied for the lead with eventual winner Ted Potter Jr., but could not get anything going, finishing with a final round of 72. His round of 72 was better than only two other players in the top 25 of the final leaderboard, and he failed to shoot in the 60's on both Saturday and Sunday. His round dropped him into a four-way tie for second. While Sunday's performance was a bit surprising, the world's No. 1 golfer should have no problem rebounding this week at the Genesis Open played at Riviera. After winning here in 2018, Johnson vaulted to world No. 1 and has not looked back since. He is the class of the field this week.--cmangano

10 months agoAs we cruise into the summer stretch of golf in 2024, it's safe to say that Dustin Johnson had a surprisingly rough spring stretch, as he placed in the top 10 on the LIV Tour just once since his win on February 10, missed the cut at The Masters, and placed T43 at the PGA Championship a few weeks ago. The 39-year-old has lost his approach touch of late, and his usually clutch putting hasn't been able to save him like we're used to. However, Johnson does have a T4 finish in 2014 to hang his hat on here at Pinehurst No. 2, so perhaps this tough track is the jump-start the South Carolina native needs to get back on track. Fantasy managers get a nice discount on DJ, as he's going for just $7,400 on DraftKings. However, there's plenty of risk baked into that price, and the upside we saw in his T10 finish at LA Country Club last year seems much further than a season away at this point.--Tommy Bell

11 months agoDustin Johnson is likely to be a polarizing option for fantasy managers this week. The 24-time PGA Tour winner and two-time Major champion undoubtedly has the pedigree and skill set to contend at any event anywhere in the world, just as he's proven on the LIV Tour in recent months. Johnson has an outright victory and two other top-10 finishes in his seven starts on LIV this season, including a T7 in his most recent start in Singapore two weeks ago. But as is the case with many LIV golfers teeing it up at the PGA Championship, fantasy managers may have concerns with LIV's 54-hole, no-cut format and how that will translate to a traditional Major format. While Johnson does have two top-10 finishes in his seven Major appearances since joining LIV, he's missed the cut in his last two Major starts at The Open Championship and the Masters, both of which saw him lose over eight total strokes to the field. It would not be wise to count Johnson out at Valhalla, but fantasy managers choosing to invest his in $8,000 DraftKings salary may want to choose the route of limited exposure.--Ryan Hickey

12 months agoMuch like his LIV colleague Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson feels like the kind of player that only turns his game up when it truly matters. The 2020 Masters winner has won once on the LIV Tour this season, but recent finishes outside the top-20 make fantasy golf managers have to question which DJ will show up this week. At $8,800 on DraftKings, there is clear value if the pin-seeking, putt-making California native shows up this week, but good luck figuring that out ahead of time. For now, consider Johnson one of the biggest high-risk, high-reward options on the PGA DFS board for The Masters.--Tommy Bell

2 years agoDustin Johnson did not fare well in his first two efforts in the Majors this year. However, the American golfer picked things up during the US Open. While he could not follow up on his opening round 64, Johnson maintained a respectable finish to end in the top ten. That was an encouraging sign for a player who has not won a Major in three years. Also, Johnson has never won at The Open. Royal Liverpool can play downright nasty. If the heaviest winds do not materialize, Johnson can take advantage of the 7.218 yard, par-72. Rainy, cool conditions are expected with some heavier afternoon bursts possible. --Chris Wassel - RotoBaller
