Most people like to say, "We told you so," when others make an error in judgement.
But we're not most people. Why? Because we put our thoughts out there every week, and most of the time we're wrong. Or some of the time anyway.
Where will we err this week? Here are the Rotoballer college hoops rankings as of January 10, 2018 (won-loss records in parentheses).
NCAA College Basketball (CBB) Rankings
1. Villanova, (14-1)
Yeah, we didn't fall in love with the Spartans like a lot of other pollsters. So what? We've had egg on our face in this space in the not-too-distant past. Anyway, Wildcats guard Mikal Bridges (17.8 PPG) is looooong (6-6), and he can shoot (51.6%). What's not to like?
2. Michigan State, (15-2)
Look, we're not going to follow the lead of other pollsters and punish a strong Spartans team for losing at a streaking Ohio State. After all, they also have a long (6-7) guard named Bridges in Miles (16.9 PPG/7.6 RPG/3.1 APG), and he can shoot the rock, too (46.3%).
3. West Virginia, (14-1)
Hard not to reward the Mountaineers for beating Oklahoma and the world's favorite freshman, Trae Young. Our favorite point guard is WVU's Jevon Carter, but James Bolden (10.4 PPG) may be the best pure shooter (44.3%) on Bob Huggins' roster.
4. Virginia, (14-1)
Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus, as long as you keep winning. The Cavaliers have won six in a row, and we're liking the looks of freshman guard De'Andre Hunter, who is averaging 7.3 PPG in just 16.4 minutes per contest.
5. Xavier, (15-2)
The Musketeers' time in our Top 10 may be drawing to a close, what with Villanova on the schedule tonight. We'll see...
6. Arizona State, (13-2)
Like most forwards, Romello White (12.8 PPG/8.2 RPG) has a high field goal percentage (65%), but he's still only a freshman, which makes his accuracy all the more impressive. Will the Sun Devils hang around in the rankings long enough for the rest of the country to see it?
7. Purdue, (15-2)
The Boilermakers may be the hottest team in the country, with a 12-game winning streak. And yet, we've been lukewarm on them despite the thumping they gave our alma mater earlier this season. We're not lukewarm on center Isaac Haas (14.8 PPG/5.4 RPG), though.
8. Duke, (13-2)
The Blue Devils lost at NC State, so... they'll still get a No. 1 seed in March. We think. Grayson Allen (16.8 PPG) is shooting 46.9% from the field this season, and staying out of the headlines.
9. Oklahoma, (13-2)
Conventional pollsters might have dropped OU, but leaving them out entirely would mean we'd have to can the gratuitous references to Trae Young. Oh, we did that already anyway? Well then let's also show some love to guard Christian James (12.7 PPG/50.7% FG).
10. TCU, (13-2)
Damn you, TCU, you went and lost to KU. Oh foo. But we won't drop you. Oh noooo. Because we know, Desmond Bane (12.7 PPG) can shooooo...t (56.3%).
