Week 4 Cut List - Fantasy Football Strategy

NFL players to consider cutting, dropping or benching for Week 4 of the 2017 season. Jason's list of fantasy football busts, injuries, and overrated players.

Plainly and simply, this will be your weekly list of those end-of-roster guys that you can safely let go of, with the occasional unfortunate star player that finds his way here due to injury.

Each week from now until the end of the season, I’ll be offering my thoughts on players who don’t deserve to keep a roster spot on your fantasy football teams. Below are my Week 4 cuts and drops for fantasy football.

Let's get to it.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

Players to Consider Dropping or Replacing

Samaje Perine (RB, WAS)

I firmly believed that it was only a matter of time before Samaje Perine took the job from Rob Kelley. Well, Perine got his chance Sunday night against a soft Raiders defense in a game the Redskins dominated wire to wire. Here's a list of things Perine did on Sunday night: ran poorly, fumbled, got hurt. None of those things will endear him to his coach or likely lead to increased usage, let alone stealing Kelley's job. It is unclear how long Perine is out for, but it really doesn't matter. He had his chance. He blew it. Maybe next year, Samaje.

Martellus Bennett (TE, GB)

He's simply not a part of the offense. Aaron Rodgers has shown no interest in throwing the ball to Martellus Bennett. The Packers are one of the best offenses in the league and they throw a lot...just never to Bennett. He has 11 catches for 102 yards through three games. He was even outscored by Rams castoff Lance Kendricks in Week 3. He truly is the Black Unicorn on the field because Rodgers can't find him, nor does he want to. Marty B will probably have a good week here and there, but he is not a reliable contributor at the position. He's not a must-own.

Darren Sproles (RB, PHI)

Unfortunately, Darren Sproles reportedly broke his arm and tore his ACL on the same play this Sunday. He is likely to miss the rest of the season, but even if he's only out six weeks, he's nowhere near valuable enough to be worth hanging onto.

Paul Perkins (RB, NYG)

I should've done a cut list before week 1, just so I could've put Paul Perkins on the list. He never should've been drafted because he is the worst starting RB in the NFL. But it doesn't stop there. He is so devoid of any football talent or ability, he should not even be in the NFL. It's no surprise that the Giants are 0-3 as they're coached by a man who not only thinks rostering Perkins is a good idea, but actually plays him...on purpose. In fact, I'm ashamed at myself for not having put Perkins here sooner.

Matt Forte (RB, NYJ)

I never would have drafted Matt Forte, but I understand why he had to be drafted. There was a chance. After three weeks, it's pretty clear he's done. Adding injury to insult, literally, Forte suffered a toe injury on Sunday. He's old. He's slow. He's on a bad team. He's in a three-way timeshare. There's just no upside.
