ANALYSIS: The 23-year-old rookie out of Northern Illinois lived up to the hype of being a popular draft sleeper in Sunday’s Lions victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Golladay was targeted seven times by Matthew Stafford, catching four passes for 69 yards and a pair of touchdowns. At 6’4’’ and 213 pounds, the third-rounder has the size to be Calvin Johnson’s replacement, and his opening performance will do nothing to slow the hype.
Golladay may climb up the depth chart to become Detroit’s second receiver behind Golden Tate, which likely means he’ll be avoiding top cornerbacks. Consider this in the immediate future, with the Lions headed to MetLife Stadium for a Monday Night matchup with the New York Giants in Week 2. While the Giants defense managed to limit Dez Bryant, number two wideout Terrance Williams led Dallas with 68 receiving yards on six catches.
This, in all likelihood, is good news for Golladay and his potential in Week 2. In addition, he seems to be a natural favorite for looks in the red zone. That would mean he wouldn’t necessarily need to lead the team in targets to be effective, as a pair of touchdowns proved this past week. He may not need to be an immediate starter on all fantasy football rosters, but the addition of Golladay could be a terrific investment as the season moves forward.
