Streaming Wars: Waiver Wire Targets for September 6

Welcome to Streaming Wars, your one-stop shop for streaming the waiver wire. Use this column to improve upon your neediest categories.

Below are your pitcher and hitter streaming targets for Wednesday, September 6.

Let's get to it.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Agenda

  1. Doing Work
  2. Today's Weather and Updates
  3. Tomorrow's Picks

1. Doing Work

Perhaps you've heard something about J.D. Martinez. He labored quite successfully on Labor Day. His teammate Robbie Ray was similarly superb in his labors. A different Martinez - this one named Carlos - tossed a complete game shutout against a bad team.

Carlos Gonzalez opted for the easy path, walking off with a, uh, walk.

2. Today's Weather and Updates

Watch out for storms in Baltimore and Atlanta. Those games may be postponed. New York is set to receive late storms. Since it's a meaningless game, it may be cut short. Cincinnati, New York, Boston, and Baltimore are at risk of a wash out tomorrow.

3. Tomorrow's Picks - Wednesday, September 6

Pitchers to Use

Somehow Luis Castillo is only 40 percent owned. I can only assume 60 percent of leagues have closed shop. The hard-throwing righty has a luck neutral 3.32 ERA with 9.74 K/8 and 3.54 BB/9 over 14 starts. He very much looks like the real deal. Castillo is opposed by a strikeout prone and homer happy Brewers offense. Consider this a high risk, massive reward gamble.

Blake Snell is only 38 percent owned despite superb production. He's been a top 15 pitcher over the last 30 days and has a 2.93 ERA since the start of July. He's a great bet for a win against the Twins.

Other Targets: Doug Fister, Jason Hammel, Jack Flaherty, Dinelson Lamet

Pitchers to Exploit

Aaron Slegers is scheduled to start for the Twins. The righty is a giant at 6' 10''. He features a low-90s fastball and an average slider. Most pitchers of his size have trouble with command, although Slegers has a long history of avoiding walks. The lack of depth to his repertoire is probably the biggest challenge he'll face.

Other Targets: Matt Garza, Joe Biagini, Matt Boyd, Nick Pivetta, Matt Harvey, Dylan Peters, Reynaldo Lopez, Kyle Freeland

Homers on the Wire

Jayson Werth has a long history of lefty mashing. He should enjoy a matchup against a middling southpaw like Peters. The slugger is batting .231/.429/.385 with the platoon advantage over a tiny sample. His career numbers are more impressive.

Other Targets: Scott Schebler, Keon Broxton, Lucas Duda, Jed Lowrie, Matt Chapman, Seth Smith, Mitch Moreland, Steve Pearce, Nick Williams, Derek Fisher, Jose Pirela, Stephen Piscotty

Steals on the Wire

Bradley Zimmer is currently following the concussion protocol. It's unclear exactly when he'll return, although reports say he's shown no symptoms. If he does play opposite the White Sox catchers, he's a big threat to run.

Other Targets: Jose Reyes, Cesar Hernandez, Delino DeShields, Carlos Gomez, Kolten Wong

Skill Positions

Stephen Vogt continues to benefit from a visit to Cincinnati. His matchup against Castillo is a problem.
