Fantasy College Basketball CBB Rankings: NCAA Top 10 (1/30/17)

Baylor's Jo Lual-Acuil Jr.

Baylor's Jo Lual-Acuil Jr.

We can't win for losing.

Just when we think we have the college hoops landscape all figured out, teams start dropping like flies. UCLA dropped two in a row. So did Kentucky. Several other teams suffered upset loses on the road, including North Carolina.

So who survives in our rankings?

Here are our CBB rankings for the week of January 30th (won-loss records in parentheses).

NCAA College Basketball (CBB) Rankings

1. Baylor, (20-1)

We'll see if the Bears have championship stuff come tournament time, but for now they are the ones winning. Australian freshman Jo Lual-Acuil Jr. (10.1 PPG) is a seven-footer with plenty of growing to do.

2. Kansas, (19-2)

The Jayhawks' loss at WVU, their first in 18 games, is enough to knock them down a peg--but just a peg. As a team, Bill Self's squad is shooting 49.8% from the field and averaging more than seven steals per game.

3. Villanova, (20-2)

We still like 'Nova over the long haul, but a loss to a mediocre Marquette team sends up a few red flags. Sophomore guard Mikal Bridges (10.5 PPG) is a player to watch in the future.

4. Gonzaga, (22-0)

AP has the 'Zags at No. 3. We don't have a problem with that, but we're taking a more pragmatic view. Gonzaga isn't a member of the Big East or Big 12, after all. Still, in just 17 minutes per game, Zach Collins makes quite an impact, averaging 105 PPG and 1.4 blocked shots per contest.

5. Arizona, (20-2)

The Wildcats just entered our rankings recently, and they've moved up fast. They've won despite not having Alonzo Trier for most of the season. He just came back last week and is averaging 13.7 PPG in three games.

6. Wisconsin (18-3)

The Badgers have suddenly won five in a row and vaulted themselves into the national picture. Sophomore Ethan Happ (14.5 PPG/9.0 RPG) looks like a player, at 6-10, 232.

7. Oregon, (19-3)

The Ducks' loss to Colorado hurts them, but again we're taking the long view. Forward Dillon Brooks hasn't been himself (13.7 PPG), but if he can stay healthy and find his game as the season goes on, we think Oregon will be a factor.

8. North Carolina, (19-4)

The Tar Heels' upset loss at Miami has pollsters looking elsewhere, but junior forward Justin Jackson's game (18.4 PPG) is still worth a look.

9. Kentucky, (17-4)

Okay, the Wildcats have lost two in a row--at Tennessee in a nail-biter and at home to No. 2 Kansas. But that doesn't make them a bad team. A team assist-to-turnover ratio of +1.5 is a good sign.

10. Creighton, (19-3)

We've always liked the Bluejays. We've also always liked seven-foot freshman center Justin Patton (14.0 PPG/6.4 RPG).
