ANALYSIS: Ronnie Hillman began the 2016 season as a free agent after his surprising release from the Denver Broncos on final cut-down day. Hillman remained on the open market until the Minnesota Vikings suffered yet another long-term setback to their team when Adrian Peterson suffered torn meniscus in Week 2 that is expected to sideline him for the next 4-to-6 months.
Hillman is coming off of a career year in 2015 where he tallied 863 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground while adding another 111 yards off of 24 receptions in the passing game with the Denver Broncos. Hillman has upside, but will likely have to work his way up the depth chart to garner any fantasy relevance. He is currently behind Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata, who are the favorites to receive the bulk of the workload in Peterson's absence.
Should McKinnon and Asiata struggle, Hillman has a history of producing solid numbers in a reserve role during his tenure with the Broncos filling in for C.J. Anderson. Due to the extent of Peterson's injury and the ambiguity that surrounds how McKinnon and Asiata will perform in the interim, Hillman is worth a pick up off of the waiver wire to be stashed for future considerations if roster space permits the acquisition.
