ANALYSIS: The Cincinnati Bengals air attack was in full force against the New York Jets in Week 1. Quarterback Andy Dalton through for 366 yards and 1 touchdown. About half of those yards belong to A.J. Green, who was setting up his own beach chair out on Revis Island. The other player who was second in receiving for Cincinnati on Sunday was WR Brandon LaFell.
Brandon caught all four of his targets for 91 yards on Sunday. That's a robust average of 22.8 yards per reception. It's pretty clear cut who the second receiver is on the Bengals, and while A.J. looked like a monster in Week 1, he won't be putting up those numbers week to week. Look for Dalton to give a lot of looks over to LaFell, especially when A.J. is being double covered.
Those in need of looking for wide receiver depth on their team should consider picking up LaFell to add depth to your bench and potentially use him in flex situations or on bye weeks to come. As the weeks roll on, LaFells numbers should continue to percolate and could become a more steady flex option.
