Analysis: As if there weren't enough young shortstops tearing up the MLB this season, Tim Anderson has been quick to show off his skills since he was called up for the aging Jimmy Rollins in mid-June. In 104 AB in the south side of Chicago Anderson has four home runs, two stolen bases in two attempts and a slash line of .308/.314/.519. He has struck out 33 times for a high K% of 30.8%, but has also defied expectations about the pop in his bat with eight doubles and a triple along with his four homers to give him an XBH percentage of 12.2%.
His BABIP is high at .418 but with his speed, hard hit hall rate of 27.4%, and medium hit ball rate of 53.4%; his offensive performance has been similar to players like Addison Russell, Zack Cozart and Jean Segura. Anderson has a slash line of .301/.340/.426 in his minor league career with a 7.3% XBH rate since 2013. His main contribution has always been speed with an average of 23.5 steals per season in just 343.5 AB per year. By sporting a flashy glove and already boasting a 1.5 WAR in his short time in the majors, it is safe to say his playing time is safe. With his well-rounded batting skills and time-tested speed, Tim Anderson is a prospect worth nabbing while eight out of ten owners remain in the dark.
