ANALYSIS: In his career, Sean Doolittle has been a jack-of-all-trades. In five seasons, he has earned 32 saves and 58 holds. His 2.97 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 10.5 K/9 have made him a steady presence in the Oakland bullpen. This year, his numbers are holding true to his past success, with a 2.51 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 11.0 K/9. In terms of his status in the closer rankings, that has been somewhat in question this season. After earning an All-Star berth in 2014 as a closer, where he earned 22 of those saves, he only pitched 13.1 innings in 2015 with rotator cuff issues. Upon his return this season, he struggled early on by allowing three HR in his first six appearances. Ryan Madson quickly took over the closer role and has gobbled up 13 saves since then. Whether Doolittle reclaims the job remains to be seen. Madson has been up-and-down and has quite an injury history of his own, nearly retiring due to Tommy John complications two years ago. Regardless, Doolittle has the stuff to help fantasy owners who need holds or even those who punt saves but have RP spots to fill. His low ratios and strong strikeout rate can help in all leagues, whether he is pitching in the eighth inning or the ninth.
