BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ team leagues
OWNED IN: 23% of Fleaflicker leagues
ANALYSIS: Nick Markakis is the very definition of the term "doubles power". The Atlanta Braves youth movement even includes this 32-year-old who has never been a special kind of player but always seems to find his way into every lineup for every team he plays for. Being a regular MLB starter does have its perks right?
The career .291 BA and wRC+ of 112 make him more than just a serviceable player to stick into your lineup. If you get rewarded for doubles, walks and OBP Markakis deserves to be rostered right now.
Markakis has a 0.94 BB/K ratio to go along with an OBP of .391 and a BABIP of .338. But why should this guy get taken off the waiver wire? The Braves offense has been pretty dismal thus far, and even through all of their struggles Markakis ranks in the top 15 in the NL for RBI. That is not a misprint.
He has been getting timely hits and moving base runners across the plate. The last time I checked EVERY fantasy baseball league counts RBI and even though the stat line of "1-for-4, 1 RBI" seems boring, he seems to do it every day.
I am not counting on him cracking 100 RBI this season, but he should continue to produce in some capacity no matter what. He might even get traded to a contender which could also up his value. For the time being he needs to be scooped up simply for his positive stats he is giving fantasy owners on a game by game basis even in a poor offense in Atlanta.
