Analysis: With career figures of 1.1 HR/9 and 4.2 BB/9, Rich Hill has always struggled with command and limiting the long ball. This season however, in pitcher-friendly Oakland, Rich Hill has brandished a 3.32 ERA, 2.76 FIP, and 1.526 WHIP spurred on by a HR/9 of just 0.5. Hill may be walking 4.3 batters per nine innings pitched, but he is also producing an incredible 13.7 K/9. Rich Hill is striking out a whopping 33.7% of batters, and his opponents BABIP of .442 paired with his low HR% of just 1.2% actually indicates that Hill has been unlucky with his opponents faced this season.
Rich Hill may not be a big name, but he is fanning batters at a monstrous pace. With the spacious field in Oakland limiting Hill's home run vulnerability, fantasy baseball owners should be happy to trade Hill's high walk rate for the blistering pace at which he is striking batters out.
