Nathan Eovaldi (SP, NYY) - Waiver Wire Pickup

BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ team teagues

OWNERSHIP: 16% in Fleaflicker leagues

ANALYSIS: In most cases, being in the Yankees' starting rotation is enough to warrant fantasy consideration. Nathan Eovaldi has been under the radar thus far, despite posting a 14-3 W-L record last season. The main reason he is undervalued is due to his career 4.14 ERA and measly 6.52 K/9 rate. Eovaldi has been able to eat up innings as a back-end starter without standing out in terms of fantasy relevance. So, what makes him worth owning this year?

A closer look reveals the possibility for improvement in Eovaldi's peripherals. His .339 and .327 BABIP the past two years are due to come down, especially with the defense of Starlin Castro at second base and Brett Gardner and Jacoby Ellsbury roaming the outfield full time (assuming they stay healthy). His fastball velocity has actually increased over the past couple of years as well, and he is incorporating a splitter which could result in more strikeouts. Eovaldi showed great promise in 2013 with the Marlins, posting a 3.39 ERA with 14 QS out of 18 total. It may seem like he has been around a while, but at only 26, Eovaldi still has great upside and is worth a chance at the end of your rotation.
