Sean Doolittle just recently announced that he is fully healthy and ready for spring training. This news has put a smile on every Bay Area resident wearing a Green Collar, and for good reason. The Oakland Athletics’ closer has amassed 224 strikeouts in 192 2/3 innings over the course of his Major League career. Throw in a 3.04 career ERA and a 0.93 career WHIP, and I see all of the reason in the world for his jersey to read “Doolots” instead of Doolittle.
Just two years ago in 2014, Doolittle’s average fastball clocked in at 94.6mph. This eye-popping velocity helped Doolittle secure 22 saves and two wins in 62.2 IP.
The Oakland Athletics have brought in some bullpen help, but there is no true threat to Sean Doolittle’s spot going into the 2016 season. Even if the control comes back slowly, I'm willing to bet that Sean Doolittle is Oakland's ninth inning man for the foreseeable future.
