Fantasy owners were excited about Matt Shoemaker's potential over a full season after he posted a 3.04 ERA in 27 games (20 starts) in 2014, but the 29-year-old wilted under the bright lights, notching just a 4.46 ERA in 135.1 innings. Shoemaker's home run rate exploded in his bid to build on the excellent campaign, rising to 1.6/9 due to an inflated 14% HR/FB rate. His strikeout rate also fell to 20.4% thanks to a nearly two percent decline in his swinging strike rate. His walk rate remained solid while seeing a rise to 6.2%. Shoemaker's composite ADP is currently off the board in standard drafts, and he could offer cheap production if he can get his home run issues under control. He will need to fight for a rotation spot in spring training, as a healthy Tyler Skaggs means that the Angels could have up to eight contenders for jobs in the starting five to begin the year.
