Kris Bryant had some debut season in the Windy City. First, the Cubs stirred up controversy by keeping him in the minors for the first 12 days of the season so they could retain him an extra year. Then he had a tremendous rookie season, smashing 26 HR to go with 99 RBI, while slashing .275/.369/.488. He was voted to the All-Star Game and then won the NL Rookie of the Year Award. Frankly, it’s quite the tough season to follow up, but Bryant has faced something similar before. His 2014 campaign in Double-A and Triple-A saw him hit 43 HR with 110 RBI and a .325 BA. Isn’t that a tougher act to follow, especially when you must do so in the majors? Bryant will probably be hitting cleanup this season, leaving him plenty of opportunities to drive in runs. His one weakness is his penchant for striking out, as he led the NL in that category last year with 199. This shouldn’t overcome all of the positives in his game, however. If he can keep his number of games played around the 150 mark as he did last year, Bryant is primed for a terrific sophomore campaign. Our guys have him going early, perhaps as early as sixth, potentially a first-round pick. In all probability, he’ll be a high second-round option, still one to go after early.
