Delino DeShields Jr. hit just two home runs with a .261 batting average in 121 games last season, but he is worth taking a look at ahead of the 2016 campaign because of what he does well. DeShields has a chance to be an elite stolen base threat over a full slate, as he swiped 25 bags last season, and famously took 101 free bases as a member of the Houston Astros' minor league system in 2012. DeShields also has outstanding plate discipline for a young player, notching a walk rate of nearly 11% in his first year at the big league level. While the prospect of owning a potential stolen base champion is enticing, the 23-year-old will need to improve his contact rate in order to play the speed game successfully, as he connected with just 78% of the pitches he saw in 2015. DeShields is certainly a work in progress heading into the year, but could be a sneaky punt play for stolen bases, as his current ADP puts him near the final rounds of most standard drafts.
