When Joey Votto blasted three home runs out of Great American Ballpark in June of 2015, we all knew he was back. After a dismal, injury-filled 2014 in which he only played 62 games, 2015 was a different story. With an incredible 1.000 OPS, Joey Votto was able to match his second-highest career total in home runs (29) to go with 80 RBI. Votto also posted a career high BB% of 20.6%, pointing towards better plate discipline as he moves through the peak years of his career.
There is a lot less uncertainty for Joey Votto going into 2016 and he should return to his perennial All-Star form. He may not have as much potential for runs scored with the loss of Todd Frazier, but the RBI total and the average surely make up for that loss. Additionally, with every player in the infield having to account for Billy Hamilton on the bags, Votto may even have some stolen base opportunities--a rarity for a power-hitting first baseman.
While the Cincinnati Reds embark on their journey to rebuild, one thing should remain constant: Joey Votto’s exceptional offensive production.
