Garrett Richards was considered a hot commodity in the fantasy community following his breakout season in 2014, but the former first-round pick failed to impress following a return from knee surgery, as his strikeout rate declined nearly four percent last season, while the walk rate increased by nearly a point and a half, contributing to a mediocre 3.65 ERA. It's unclear whether the late start to the season contributed to the letdown, but it's worth noting that his groundball rate actually improved in 2015 (from 51% to 55%) and the dip in his average fastball velocity was negligible, which could bode well for his chances to bounce back. Richards looks to have settled in as an option inside the first 10 rounds of fantasy drafts for the upcoming season, which could return serious value if he is able to find the form that made him an early Cy Young candidate in 2014.
