Even with the Los Angeles Dodgers trade apparently off the table, the Cincinnati Reds are still trying to move Aroldis Chapman.
The closer was on his way to Hollywood until the deal was pulled off the table because news came out about a domestic dispute he had with his girlfriend. Chapman allegedly choked her and fired off eight gunshots inside his garage.
There’s a chance that Chapman could be suspended over the alleged incident. No charges have been brought against the flame-thrower. MLB is currently investigating the incident. A lengthy suspension could result in an extra year of team control, according to Fox Sports. This could actually work in the Reds benefit because teams would have one more year with Chapman on their roster at more of an affordable rate. Teams will likely await the results of any possible suspension before pulling the trigger on a trade.
The four-time closer had a 1.53 ERA this season with a 116/33 K/BB ratio over 66 1/3 innings. He’s only entering his seventh season and has arguably been the best closer in the game over the last few seasons.
