Analysis: While fading rookie receivers is not the strong play it used to be in fantasy drafts, the case of Nelson Agholor reminds us that it's still hazardous. As a first-rounder stepping into a starting role in a dynamic offense, the USC product was supposed to yield far better numbers. But after 10 games, Agholor looks like a rookie with a longer learning curve.
Three weeks on the shelf after a Week 5 high ankle sprain has not helped. In the seven games Agholor has played he's averaging a mere four fantasy points - he currently has 14 total catches for 148 yards and zero scores. That's not even close to being flex-worthy.
An eye-popping preseason for Agholor has given way to a regular season of inconsistent route-running, miscommunication with his quarterbacks and injury. With Mark Sanchez now at the helm, the Eagles' offense seems unwilling (or unable) to attack outside the numbers with much vigor. Agholor seems relegated to bubble screen and hitch routes. This is an offense seemingly on the decline and discord is growing.
While it's possible the Birds could snap out of it and find a rhythm, Agholor has a lot to prove. The Eagles face some tough pass defenses in the coming weeks. Still, his raw talent is considerable enough for him to be worth a stash in the deepest of leagues. But the light needs to go on, both for Agholor and for the Eagles' offense as a whole.
