Analysis: We’ve seen Nate Washington explode with an offensive outburst the last two weeks with Cecil Shorts out due to multiple injuries. Prior to that, Shorts had two games without Washington and had some solid numbers of his own. He had at least 60 yards in both games and managed a 6-87-1 line against the Falcons.
In the first three games where both Texans receivers played, it was Shorts who had more targets and catches. Looking ahead, Washington has played well enough that it may be unlikely for Shorts to retake the #2 role behind Deandre Hopkins. In deeper leagues that doesn’t necessarily make him worthless. In five Texans losses so far, they have averaged just over 50 pass attempts.
Looking at the Texans schedule, they are unlikely to be a favorite in any of their next six games. That means a lot of pass attempts and therefore opportunities for Shorts. Shorts should be all healed up following the week 9 bye. He is definitely worth a speculative add in deeper leagues.
