BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team PPR Leagues
OWNED IN: 32% of Fleaflicker Leagues
ANALYSIS: Jim Bob Cooter. Yep, that's the name of the Lions new OC. That could mean good things for Theo Riddick, who's the most dynamic pass-catching back on the Lions.
Going into this season Ameer Abdullah got most of the fantasy hype for Lions running backs while Joique Bell was drafted by many as an unexciting, high-floor play. But through seven weeks, Theo Riddick has looked like he might be the most valuable running back to have in Detroit.
Riddick's value is highest in PPR leagues. He has 36 catches for 318 yards, both surpassing his numbers from last season. Riddick has the second most catches among running backs, trailing only Danny Woodhead. His best game came in Week 5 against Arizona when he went off for 10 catches, 53 yards and a TD.
The Lions have a bye this week, so hopefully we'll have some clarity on the running back situation before a Week 10 matchup at the Packers. Ameer Abdullah has had fumbling issues and hasn't impressed running the ball (3.6 ypc). Joique Bell played in Week 7 after missing three weeks, but only had three carries.
Riddick’s value comes from catching short passes and making something happen. If he can continue to catch about 5 balls a game, he should have value in deeper leagues. Riddick only has 12 carries on the season, which limits his upside and his chances at scoring a TD.
He’s not the most exciting player to add, but until anything changes Riddick has the highest floor among Lions' running backs. If you’re in need of someone to replace Arian Foster or Jamaal Charles, Riddick is worth the roster spot.
