Arian Foster owners cringed as they heard the news of Foster blowing his Achilles on a non-contact play. To add insult to injury, the damage came when Foster's Houston Texans were down 44-22 late in a blowout against the Dolphins. Two players on the Texans are worth watching for those looking to replace the stud running back.
Alfred Blue will most likely be the player fantasy owners try to pick up, as he'll likely find himself atop the Texans depth chart by Tuesday. The sophomore saw considerable playing time last year, carrying the ball 169 times for for an average of 3.1 yards. Blue has always played in spot duty through this point of his career, but with Foster's injury his playing time and fantasy prospects should skyrocket.
Texans running back Chris Polk will now take over second-string duties, but will likely get an opportunity to take the starting job from Blue, who has yet to show he can be a quality starting back.
The Texans are also quickly approaching evaluation mode, as they fell to 2-5 with Sunday's loss. Polk carried the ball 57 times over 29 games for the Eagles in the last two seasons, averaging 4.3 yards yards per rush. He also had a knack for finding the end zone, and ended up scoring seven times during his tour with the Eagles.
Looking elsewhere, owners can consider looking at a player with an even more extensive injury record than Foster - Darren McFadden. McFadden is starting to separate himself in the Dallas Cowboys running back-by-committee system, taking advantage of an injury to his teammate Joseph Randle. McFadden rushed for 152 yards and a touchdown against the Giants on Sunday, and is still available in 33% of most fantasy leagues.
